Tragedy struck the University of California, Berkeley campus as Marco Troper, a 19-year-old freshman math major and the son of former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, was discovered unresponsive in his dormitory at the Clark Kerr campus. Despite emergency responders’ efforts, they were unable to revive him.
The University of California Police Department confirmed the incident, stating that Berkeley Fire Department had initiated life-saving procedures, but unfortunately, Troper was pronounced deceased upon their arrival.
Authorities found no evidence of foul play, but Troper’s grandmother, Esther Wojcicki, suspected a drug overdose as the cause of his death.
In a heartfelt tribute, Esther Wojcicki described Marco as a remarkable individual, emphasizing his kindness, intelligence, and warmth. The family expressed profound devastation over their loss, mourning the future experiences Marco would never have and the moments they would never share.
Marco, a promising student and member of the Zeta Psi fraternity, was midway through his second semester at UC Berkeley, his potential tragically cut short.
Susan Wojcicki, known for her leadership at YouTube, stepped down from her role in February 2023 to prioritize her family, health, and personal endeavors after 25 years with the company.
The Wojcicki-Troper family, including Susan, her husband David Troper, and their five children, now grapple with the immense sorrow of losing Marco, whose memory will forever be cherished and honored.
