Andre Braugher No More – Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andre Braugher, who played the role of Captain Raymond Holt, passes away at 61 after a brief illness.
Andre Braugher was popular because of his deep voice among the fans of the show. A leading character in the show, Braugher also played the role of Detective Frank Pembleton in NBC show ‘Homicide: Life on the Street’ for which he won an Emmy.
Braugher was born in Chicago on July 1, 1962, the youngest of four children born to Sally, a postal worker, and Floyd Braugher, a heavy equipment operator. His first film was Glory which released in 1989. He played the role of Thomas Searles, an educated and free African American.
Earning widespread acclaim, Andre Braugher achieved fame primarily through his portrayal of the cold Captain Raymond Holt in the popular sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Over the show’s eight seasons, Braugher garnered recognition for his dialogue delivery.
Notably, he clinched two Critics Choice Awards in the category of best supporting actor in a comedy series. Additionally, Braugher earned four Emmy nominations for his outstanding performance as Captain Holt, the precinct’s no-nonsense leader who breaks stereotypes as an African American boss.
Regrettably, Andre Braugher’s unexpected death has not only marked a profound loss but also brought an abrupt halt to his upcoming venture.
The Netflix series “Residence,” all set to commence filming early next year, was to be his next project. The news of his passing has left the production in a standstill and with an uncertain future.
One of the first reactions to this tragic demise came from former NFL player, actor and TV star Terry Crews. He was one of Braugher’s first co-stars in Brooklyn Nine-Nine and their on-screen chemistry hit the right chord from day one. “Can’t believe you’re gone so soon.
I’m honored to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and shared 8 glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent” Crews posted on Instagram.
“This hurts. You left us too soon. You taught me so much. I will be forever grateful for the experience of knowing you. Thank you for your wisdom, your advice, your kindness and your friendship.
Deepest condolences to your wife and family in this difficult time. You showed me what a life well lived looks like” Crews posted on the popular social media site.
Other Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-stars who reacted to this tragic news include Chelsea Peretti, who posted on Instagram “Will miss your dulcet tones. Forever lucky to have gone on such a journey with you. Ringside seat.”
Marc Evan Jackson, who played the role of Kevin, posted a photo of theirs on set, writing “O Captain. My Captain.”
Ryan Case, who worked alongside braugher in the hit comedy show posted on X “My ‘challenge’ … was finding takes where he wasn’t smiling. We wanted to save that for the end. He was like a giddy school child doing his first comedy and it was so wonderful.”
In another tweet, Case posted “If there weren’t men like Andre in this business I probably would’ve quit it a long time ago. The world is worse without him.”
Throughout his three-decade career, he was nominated for an Emmy a total of 11 times. He mostly starred in roles circling the military and police, including his popular role on Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Braugher is survived by his wife, the actor Ami Brabson and their three sons Michael, Isaiah and John Wesley; as well as his brother Charles and mother Sally. His wife Ami had also appeared in the show ‘Homicide: Life on the Street’ which had Braugher in a lead role.
